RSAT Installation error 2147942413: The data is invalid

Now this was a tricky little error.

I wanted to install the Remote Server Administration Tools for Windows 7 (RSAT) on my Windows 7 x64 Ultimate machine today.

Downloaded, double-clicked the MSU file and then this error showed up:

Windows update "Update for Windows (KB958830)" could not be installed because of error 2147942413 “The data is invalid”.

Yes, thank for the detailed explanation. But the event log will truly have a be better explanation, I’m sure!

Okay, also not very detailed. After a lot of searching, it turned out that this message means: The file is damaged!

Downloaded again from a different machine, run without any problem. Go figure…
