After using system restore the Office 2013 license (KMS Activation) might display error 0x4004F00D

Although the general issues with Office 2013 KMS Activation is well below 0.01%, when using System restore to go back to an earlier restore point the activation stops working in nearly 50% of all cases.

We have not understand why it sometimes work and sometimes not, but we have a quick solution for it.

First, when Office starts with the message it is not activated, open a command prompt and move to the Office15 folder. Next, issue the /dstatus command to check the current license status.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15>cscript ospp.vbs /dstatus

The error code is 0x4004F00D , the one we are normally seeing after using system restore.

Next, check the line “Last 5 characters of installed product key:” if this matches the generic KMS keys. In some cases, this key is also lost during system restore. If it does not match, enter a new one:

cscript ospp.vbs /inpkey:XYZA-XYZA-xxxx etc.

If the key displayed matches, first REARM the license status by using  the /REARM command:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15>cscript ospp.vbs /rearm
Microsoft (R) Windows Script Host, Version 5.8
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation 1996-2001. Alle Rechte vorbehalten.

Microsoft Office rearm successful.

Finally, tell Office to try activate now by using the /ACT command:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15>cscript ospp.vbs /act
